We need to Hear from You About the Graylingwell Theatre
>
>
>
> It’s a little-known fact that the Theatre at Graylingwell Hospital, in
> Chichester, is likely to be demolished to make way for housing on the
> site.
>
>
>
> We’d like your views on this as they’ll help shape the decision to either
> object to this, or let it go ahead.
>
>
>
> The Theatre is rectangular in shape with a sprung wooden floor, a small
> balcony, and a wooden stage with flying facilities, substantial projection
> screen (there are projectors which could be renovated), and a small
> orchestra pit. We estimate that it’s seated capacity could be around
> 450 -
> and more if the seating was retractable. Even as an empty shell it oozes
> atmosphere and requires little imagination to envisage how it could be
> creatively used.
>
>
>
> There is no other Theatre or space of this size and flexibility between
> Worthing and Fareham, or north to Farnham. It could be a home to all
> manner
> of activities – here’s just an idea:
>
>
>
> Mid-scale folk, jazz, blues, world music; mid-scale touring opera,
> theatre,
> and dance; film, poetry, classical music from soloists to ensembles (the
> acoustics are excellent; trade shows, exhibitions, lectures, talks,
> dinners,
> banquets, receptions. It could act as a flexible space for circus, for
> more
> experimental theatre companies, promenade performances, and as a home to
> amateur dramatic and operatic productions, for Chichester Festivities, and
> for community events and activities.
>
>
> The developers are keen to demolish it and build a new multi-purpose
> building to the north of the site which will possibly accommodate up to
> 300
> people but no-one has seen detailed plans.
>
>
> There is a groundswell of opinion that every effort should be made to be a
> full part of the consultation process as to the feasibility of retaining
> the
> theatre - it is far too important an existing arts facility not to be
> discussed by all interested parties and in great detail. So we need to
> hear
> from you.
>
>
> Could you, your organisation, or an amalgam of individuals or
> organisations,
> make use of the theatre and if so what frequency of use might be feasible
> ?
>
>
>
> As Chichester seeks to rebrand itself as ‘Chichester – City of Arts or
> Culture’ your
> opinion could really count.
>
> Please e-mail your response, and or ideas asap.
>
>
> STOP PRESS !!!!
>
> The developers have agreed that interested parties can view the Theatre
> next
> Tuesday 29 July at 1pm. It is vital that we have a good turnout for this
> so
> please make every effort to attend, and feel free to pass this invitation
> to
> anyone else who you think may be interested. It would be very helpful if
> you could let me know if you are intending to be there.
>
> The Theatre is on the south side of the Graylingwell site and there is
> plenty of car parking available. Follow the ‘GT’ signs.

Excellent website, Chris! Nice to hear a bit of Howells on the site - good choice. I just typed in 'Lay Vicar' in to 'Google', and three of the top 30 websites were about you. Are you taking over?

Di Denyer in In Midhurst at 2005-05-08 20:40:15
I am a friend of Judes and was amazed to here this beautiful sound! I will be along to the next concert. Could you put one of your spirituals on the web, these are my favourites. The choir is fabulous!

Victoria Larley in Chichester at 2005-02-07 22:55:48
The Thornesian Prize has now closed, with 68 entries for the competition.

In your repertoire i didn't see bizantin music?I know it is not easy to sing , but you have a good choir.

Jamie Hall in at work at 2004-06-12 15:24:15
I found Crabley's website link on the choir site today and was mortified when, having selected the ropey-quality version of 'Crabley's Car'to view on my particularly naff P.C, It wouldn't play!!!! I'm feeling pretty empty right now!!! :-)When will it be available on DVD and VHS? P.S impressed by YMCA Crabley! Oh and the choir is good too........

The link to the Thornesian Prize entry form only opens if you have Acrobat reader or the program itself. I believe you can download this free on the internet if you look for it. Otherwise, I will email the form to interested parties.

We have had many enquiries about the Thornesian Prize, which is encouraging. Details will be sent out shortly, and information circulated to various publications. Watch the website for details.

You have now had the honour of playing for us, thankyou very much. We gave a very successful concert on 23rd November, with a full house, and managed to raise money for the church, as well as premiere some new works. See 'Concerts' for details of our next performances, including evensong in Chichester Cathedral, and Arundel, as part of the St. Nicholas' Concert Series.

We don't have a CD unfortunately, as choir funds do not run to it. We'd love to make a recording, so if anyone can offer resources...

Janet in Bognor Regis at 2002-09-23 12:37:54
I came to your concert in July, and enjoyed it a lot, especially the welsh folk songs. Do you have a CD I can buy?

Fiona and Anthony Cartmell in Worthing, West Sussex at 2002-09-22 23:13:45
We agree with Neil, you sound wonderful! We might just know someone in Chichester who might do a composition for you...

Neil in Chich at 2002-09-20 23:47:42
Nice Bruckner extract, you are obviously a highly trained crack group of artistes. Good luck with the composition competition.
